Hi all,

I am looking to buy a Westfalia. Currently looking at a 1990. Mileage is estimated around 200k.

Here‘s some pictures.

I am mostly concerned about rust issues. Especially with whatever is going on in the lower panel under the water and electricity connections.

I don’t know much about vanagons. I own a 79 beetle and I do all the work on it myself so mechanically I’m not afraid of fixing stuff.

I need some basic advice here regarding value and possible issues. Car has AC that is not working right now. I’m in TX so AC is a must in the summer.

any input is appreciated.

Its two weeks later so likely too late for you but a couple of comments...(I've owned a '90 since new and have a '84 also)
AC is likely due to a leak in the system. These can be hard to find and fix. For example had one up in front compressor area that took several trips and a mechanic who would would give up to find it...then I had to find the part on eBay.

The body looks like its been somewhat beat up so that will take some effort to fix up. I've only had problems with seam rust which I've been able stop with a rust killer spray. All comes down to price you pay for it:). Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I ended up buying a different one. A 1988 that has a good body. Need to work in the engine and sort the interior a bit.

Sound good. Post some pics!

I added a second battery system with a solar panel and just installed a USB charger for phones and battery voltage monitor.
