Fridge doesn't work in the wind

I have an '83 water-cooled Vanagon with a fridge problem.

The fridge works perfectly on AC, DC, and LP, but if the wind picks up while camping with the fridge running on LP, the pilot light blows out. This amuses my friends to no end as I lay on my side frantically pumping up the fridge and getting it started again just to have it blow out a few minutes later. This goes on all day until the winds calm down in the evening. Then everything is fine until the wind starts again the next morning.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
