Default Want to make a custom shift knob for my son's 87 Westy

Would anybody have the specs on the threaded insert I would use? I'm going to turn it out of wood. Or, even better, a source for the insert? I can use knobs and just take them apart, but it would be nicer to just have the insert. I'll make one for the person that points me to a source

to be honest, you'd be just as well cutting down a standard knob and using that as an insert
although i think the thread you need is an m12 thread, i'm not sure of the pitch, would be easy enough to take the gear knob into home depot to their nut and bolt department, where they have a thread gauge you should be albe to find the right thread within a minute
