Default FNG - Introduction and question

Hi Everyone. I'm Rene, a 40yo guy from Seattle that has always wanted a VW ever since I joy rode my dad's '72 when I was 14.

I've been really wanting to camp along the west cost in a Westfalia, especially in Washington and Yosemite. Today I came across the oppurtunity to buy a 1981 Westy with an engine that caught fire (but was rebuoilt less than 1 year and 15K before).

It's in about a 35-40 out of 100 shape not counting the engine, and the seller wants $900.

I have all the time in the world to work on this. The title is WA branded (it was "totaled" in the fire). The damage seems limited to the engine compartment after a very brief look-over.

What do you folks think? Should I grab it? I have until tomorrow when the person sells it to a yard.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, I bought it. I guess the next question (and hopefully someone can answer it) what is the best repair shop in the Seattle area? Anyone?
