FROM THE CHAT ROOM:
Capt. Mike:
Years ago in the mid Type II era, there was a W Coast company that made a very close to Westy conversion that many W Coast dealers carried instead of the Westy. Based on a Kombi, it wasn't bad and did have a thermo controlled furnace and a little bit more of the mobile home look. But it used a pop-top without visible seals so looked weird. They had a few goodies I liked like dash tray cubbies, but overall quality looked below the Westy and you couldn't get camper equpment service outside those dealers that carried them. I suspect that was before VWoA took over all of the distributorships so there was a little more independence.
Nothing I saw surpassed even today's Winnie built campers, and I KNOW I don't want a raised roof. The 7' clearance I need now with the 4x4 is bad enough at parking decks. I even had to trim the headers out of my own garage. I sure don't want a bubble roof.

European VW California Exclusive

By way of a web link on this sight, I found myself checking out a "California Exclusive" VW hardtop camper apparently sold in the UK. I love the design, particularly the little WashCloset. Anyone ever seen one of these in person? Any ideas on how to get VW to start selling them in the US or on how one might go about buying/importing one (or two or three)?
PS: My apologies Capt. Mike. Just saw the other post for this same topic. System wouldn't let me delete this one.
