Hey folks,

I'm considering trading my '95 Chevrolet for an '85 vanagon. I'd be leaving myself without a 4X4 vehicle and the winters can be a little snowy in the VA mountains but I'd be taking my YOLO/SWAG (joking) game through the roof.

The current owner says the Vanagon needs some sort of air valve because it has a tendency to "spit and sputter" during the warmer months. There's about 180k miles on it.

Is this a good choice for a somewhat reliable weekend and road trip (second) vehicle? I'd rate myself as moderately mechanically inclined (I do minor auto maintenance myself and got a '76 Honda motorcycle running like new after needing an engine swap and carb rebuild). I can deal with a little discomfort for an increase in fun factor.

What say you? Thanks everyone!
